Today, the administration announced an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, implemented in 2012. No new DACA applications will be granted, and the administration will begin a "wind down" of the program in six months, allegedly giving Congress time to enact legislation to protect DACA recipients.

The Florence Project deplores the administration's decision to terminate the DACA program. For the past five years, DACA has allowed approximately 800,000 immigrants who came to the United States as children to avoid deportation and obtain work permits. DACA has allowed many of our friends, neighbors, and loved ones to be safe from the visceral fear of deportation and family separation. This decision increases already heightened fear in immigrant communities, and throws families and employers into uncertainty.

As the only organization in Arizona that provides free legal and social services to detained immigrants, we have long advocated for the rights of immigrants and refugees. We fear that the administration's decision to terminate DACA will increase immigrants in detention, as immigration authorities widen their scope of enforcement in Arizona.

We call on Congress to swiftly approve legislation that protects DACA recipients, and all immigrants who are threatened with detention and deportation.

Please join us in raising your voice in support of DACA recipients and the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. who deserve respect, dignity, and a life free of harm. Please call (202) 224-3121 and ask for your U.S. senators and representative, and tell them to support DACA and keep our communities strong.

DACA Press Conference

August 29, 2017, 4:00pm - August 29, 2017, 7:00pm

Defered Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a program that has benefited nearly one million young immigrants by allowing them to obtain a work permit and fulfill their personal and professional goals is in jeopardy. Trump and his administration seek to disregard and destroy millions of futures by removing DACA - demonstrating that his termination of DACA shows his clear support of white suppremisists.

URGENT MESSAGE PLEASE SHARE! If you are traveling abroad on advance parole with your DACA — this is serious—come back as soon as possible! We don’t know if people outside the U.S. with advance parole will be allowed to return to the U.S. once an announcement terminating the program is made. If you were thinking of applying for initial and renewal we recommend not submitting your application in the event that the program ends before your application is processed and you may lose your $495 fee. Stay tuned for more information.

Trans-Gay Caravan: International Call of Action

August 10, 2017, 9:30am - August 10, 2017, 2:00pm

The sixteen people who make up the First Trans-Gay Migrant Caravan, 2017 send greetings of solidarity and respect to all the displaced, migrant, and refugee peoples of the world. We have fled from afar, escaping from the violence that abounds in our countries against LGBTI people. Fearing to return, we have walked from Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico asking for political asylum in the United States. We invite you to join our fight for migrant trans-gay dignity by gathering letters of support and calling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Washington, D.C this August 10, 2017 demanding we are released on parole. Join us at the Kino Initiative's Comedor where we will meet to march to present the #rainbow16 to the US port of entry. On our way to safety and dignity we have suffered tremendously. We do not want to re-live the violence we faced by being sent to an all male detention centers where we are at high risk of being sexually assaulted and abused. No detention for the #rainbow16 There is a need for as many bodies to come and support this action. We all need to be united as one in our quest for a just life, and when our LGBTQ+ Familia is under attack, we are all under attack. Please contact Ana Rodriguez: ana@borderlinks.org, Xavi Ramirez: xavi@borderlinks.org, Josue Saldivar: jsaldivar09@gmail.com to let us know if you can drive or if you need a ride. We are looking for more people to drive down there. The press conference with the members of the caravan and all media focus will be in Nogales, Sonora. The action will take place on both sides of the border. If you are able to travel into Mexico we are also looking for people that can support in that way as well.
