More than 1000 civilians were killed by Salvadoran troops in El Mozote and surrounding towns over several days during December 1982. Today's proceedings are a major step forward for the first human rights trial following the repeal of El Salvador's controversial amnesty law last summer.

State-based violence is not new to our Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Two Spirit and Queer communities, especially queer and trans Black, and Indigenous people. Our ancestors for centuries have been disrespected, ignored, caged, abused, and subject to deadly violence since the formation of the American national identity. Stories of family members disappearing in police custody, violent backlash and attacks to silence and suppress us, and twisted politicians using our bodies for political gain are all too familiar.

And while the new political realities in the US and the rise of fascism around the world have many calling for unity, bold action and even revolution, we continue to see the transphobia, misogyny, xenophobia, anti blackness and racism that is at the root of Trump's power reflected back to us in our own community and in the growing movement to resist Trump's agenda. This year is on track to be the most dangerous year yet for trans women of color — even more violent than 2016, and 2015 before that.

So far in 2017, seven of our sisters have lost their lives to horrific acts of violence. These Black and native trans women's lives were in jeopardy on multiple levels before November 8th and threats have only increased since. However, despite the hyper-visible outrage against anti-woman and anti-LGBT policies led and inspired by the Trump administration, the loss of Mesha Caldwell, Jaquarrius Holland, Chyna Doll Depree, JoJo Striker, Ciara McElveen, Jamie Lee Wounded Arrow, Tiara Richmond, and the calls for action from trans women in our community have been met with telling silence.

A report released Thursday morning by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) said that undocumented immigrants in the United States contribute around $11.74 billion in state and local taxes. The contributions come from a variety of taxes, including sales, excise, personal income and property taxes.

policy is informed policy," ITEP director of programs Meg Wiehe said via a press release. as the horrendous impact of breaking up families under a mass deportation policy should not be ignored, nor should policymakers overlook the significant contributions undocumented immigrants make to our state and local revenues and the economy."

"ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) occur in greater frequency among Latin American youth, specifically first-generation immigrant children. Studies also show that first-generation immigrant Latino youth are at higher risk of depression, anxiety and PTSD. This is in part caused by the constant stress and fear of deportation of themselves or family members.

These children suffer developmentally and educationally as well. They cannot access basic services such as early intervention, meal assistance or other government programs because their parents fear detection and deportation, even though a large proportion of these children are actually born in the United States and qualify for these programs. This results in even greater disparities between the Latin American community and the rest of the country." …

"That is one of the main issues that we are having is the fact that a lot of the women and children that were released, their husbands and fathers were sent home or are still in detention," she said. Unlawful Deportation, Immigration Rights

Unlawful Deportation, Immigration Rights

People have been lied to about USA President Obama. He did many thousands of unlawful deportations to Brazil and many other countries, without the due process inside of Immigration Law. Then he lied further and said it was not him, and to fear Donald Trump. It was Obama's intention, because he is muslim, to only let in muslim people as immigrants. He deported others to make room for muslim people and tore apart many families. Please Sign the Petition and let me go home to my family.

I was 7 days away from my wedding, unlawfully held and detained, and laws were not applied in the USA to allow for my marriage to take place, and me to stay with my fiance and children. This has shattered 3 families, all of my kids and grandchildren. No one understands that we have laws that are supposed to work, and when they do not work, it devastates everything a person built up in their life.

Please sign my petition to help me get back to my life, and watch everyone grow up, and be part of their lives. I miss my life more than anyone can know, and I don't want this to happen to anyone, it never should have happened to me.

Standing in Solidarity with our Tohono O'Odham brothers and sisters. …

March 23, 2017, 4:00pm – March 23, 2017, 8:00pm

Senator McCain has not come out with a formal statement opposing or supporting Trump's executive order to begin building a wall on the southern border, 75 miles of which would be on Tohono O'odham tribal land- a clear violation of the Nation's tribal sovereignty. The wall would be devastating to animals, wildlife, and water that moves across the border, and would prevent O'odham from continuing religious and cultural practices in our traditional lands of what is now Mexico.

Senator McCain represents the Tohono O'odham Nation and its tribal members in Congress and must listen to the voices and concerns of those who live and work on the Nation along the border. We stand AGAINST the border wall and increasing border militarization.

We want a large crowd of O'odham, Natives, and anyone who opposes Trump's proposed border wall to join us at McCain's office to visually remind him that he represents us and he needs to listen to our concerns. During this time, all letters of opposition to the wall that have been collected over the past few weeks will be delivered, and a meeting with his staff will be requested.

Wear your traditional outfits, bring your sawkud, visually represent your community or just show up!

Español Abajo-

In the past week, the repressive ICE agency conducted nationwide coordinated raids and collateral arrests of more than 680 undocumented immigrants. These attacks are part of the Trump administration plans to increase massive persecution, arrests and deportations of our undocumented brothers and sister.

Immigrant rights action committee L.U.P.E is calling on all progressive and popular forces in Tucson for an emergency protest outside of the Federal Building (300 W Congress St) on Thursday 16th at 5pm. Let us demonstrate with a unified voice of peoples power our determination to fight back and resist.

More than ever here in Tucson we need our city government to take a stand against the Trump administration and declare Tucson a Sanctuary City, by approving concrete measures that will prohibit collaboration with ICE and Border Patrol. We demand from our City Council concrete policies that commit to protecting and defending our undocumented brothers and sisters.

No Raids!

Sanctuary City!

No Muslim or refugee ban!

CALL to Action University of Arizona Divest from WELLS FARGO

THE CHUKSON/ TUCSON WATER PROTECTORS in solidarity with other Tucson groups are resisting the injustices of the Trump administration to the Indigenous peoples, humanity and the Earth.

DAPL URGENT CALL TO ACTION: The Drills Are Breaking Ground right NOW

We Have Been Called Upon by those still protecting the water in Standing Rock to commit to continuous action

Phase One: Divest Funds From Wells Fargo Immediately

A collective effort and concern that has grown so loud from the hard work and efforts of the the following diverse groups:

Those speaking out against the blatant illegal violation of Indigenous Treaty Rights

Environmentalists lobbying to protect the land and clean water,

Impacted families and communities now living in direct threat of toxic contamination and likely irreparable damage to their once clean water supplies

Medical Experts fearing the historical records that indicate the likelihood of multiple diseases that result from contaminated water exposure

Collectives of scientists, conservationists, wildlife protectors

Despite these national outcries:

The Drills Are Breaking Ground Right NOW!

The Army Corps is brazenly acting in violation of an established law, of procedure that requires Senate is provided a 14-day notice notice on the DAPL easement. They have tossed that law aside, fired up their engines, and announced: begins in 24 hours." This means that by the time you read this::

The Drills Are Breaking Ground right NOW!

It is more urgent than ever that all groups who have ever fought to protect against the threats previously mentioned, to join together now! We are fighting a much larger battle that joins all of us together. All of us, The People, when joined in solidarity:

CAN AND WILL FIGHT THIS!

In an effort to make our stance in this battle on many fronts, we begin today by announcing the call for all collectives and individuals to join together in the call for 14 Days of Continuous Actions that loudly, passionately, creatively, assert our voice:

Enough is Enough!"

We Stand Together: Please pass this notice to all individuals and groups in your communities, churches, schools, universities, etc. who would like to stand in solidarity. We ask all groups with any affinity in this battle to contact [Whatever we decided to put here?!]

We Move Forward: By continuing to publicizing through all channels and other media outlets what is happening now and continue to bring awareness of these atrocities that are happening to our communities. Our future generations' lives are at stake.

We Aim our First Phase at the Primary Interest – THEIR MONEY: We continue to target one of DAPL's financial backer, Wells Fargo. With a laser focus, we intensify the call for all parties to act now and divest from Wells Fargo.

We Join & Witness Success: As the Seattle City Council unanimously voted to divest from Wells Fargo in protest of #DAPL, we celebrate this as evidence that our initial goal is not only possible, but inevitable:

But We Must Join, Publicize, and Act Now!

This is only the beginning. This is only the first act. We encourage you to remain relentless and resistant.

Please alert your interest groups and communities to this Immediate Release of our Urgent Call to 14 days of Continuous Action that force our voices to be heard.

Please commit to the ongoing releases that will be announced on [Whatever we decided to put here?!]

This is now a movement that is reaching far beyond what anyone could have anticipated. As those drills slam into our earth which are the very reasons:

WE WILL PROTECT AND STRIVE TO WIN!

I was listening to Here and Now on NPR and heard Ijeoma Oluo discussing the Women's March and the mixed feelings she had about it as a woman of color. She talked about white women marching there who never marched for black rights. I have marched for black causes and signed lots of petitions for legal redress, but I started thinking about the problem and what the solution might be.

I moved to Tucson this November from L.A. and attended the volunteer fair here in Tucson looking to connect. When I approached the BLM table, there were already other white people there signing up to volunteer. We were all told that BLM was a blacks only organization, but we could sign the sheet as allies. I was disappointed, but understood that there might be a fear of having the movement hijacked, so I signed as an ally. I had been similarly rebuffed in the 60s by the Black Panther Party. I was too young to have marched with Dr. King and that movement. Rethinking my participation, I realized that I had never felt needed or wanted in the civil rights movement and therefore had participated more peripherally than I had wanted to.

My question is, how do white women, or men, support black participation in multiracial organizations that fight for rights we all want? How do we fix this issue so we can all move forward together? …

Is this where our country is going?

A conservative Arizona lawmaker, Rep. Bob Thorpe, is proposing a far-reaching law in Arizona, House Bill 2120, banning virtually every college event, activity or course which discusses social justice, skin privilege, or racial equality. Violating the law would allow the state of Arizona to levy multimillion-dollar fines and penalties against universities removing at least 10% of their state aid.

This is no joke. Arizona already passed a law targeting ethnic studies in the state. They are fulling willing and able to pass this bill as well.

Please allow me to highlight some of the most disturbing sections of the bill.

It would ban any courses, activities, or events that:

designed primarily for a particular ethnic group."

social justice toward a race."

solidarity based on ethnicity."

Strangely, so as to not appear anti-Semitic, the bill then makes a very particular allowance for any and all discussions of the Holocaust.

According to Tucson.com:

Thorpe said Thursday his bill is aimed specifically at things like a walk" exercise sponsored by the University of Arizona and a course entitled and Race Theory" at Arizona State University.

The former is described in UA literature as helping participants the privileges that they have been granted and to learn about the backgrounds of their peers."

Among the exercises is telling students to step forward if they meet certain criteria, like having more than 50 books in a home, going to a private school or having inherited money. Conversely, those who were raised in a single-parent household, had to rely on public transportation or were ashamed of their clothes while growing up take a step back for each.

Participants are supposed to notice where they are in relation to others.

All of this is completely and utterly disgusting. That an aloof lawmaker wants to actually oversee and monitor individual activities and events to prohibit students and staff from discussing economic and skin privilege in this country is not just petty, it's deeply problematic. What is his aim here?

It appears that Bob Thorpe actually has a bigger problem with students and staff discussing white privilege than he does with the unfair privilege itself. That should disturb all of us. For all of their talk about local rights, it's deeply telling to see conservative lawmakers go so far as to say what individual dormitory directors and instructors can and cannot discuss with their students. Conservatives like Thorpe are fully willing to be control freaks when it protects white supremacy and cultural hegemony then say they stand on the principles of local control when it benefits them.

I have a hunch this bill is not an anomaly, but a troubling sign of things to come.

The Policing Project is using a public questionnaire asking for broad community input to help the LAPD establish policies for the release of body camera footage taken following critical incidents, including officer-involved shootings.

Please help by completing the questionnaire, and reading the announcement below:

The Los Angeles Police Commission and the Policing Project seek community input to help the commission establish policies for the release of body camera footage taken following critical incidents, including officer-involved shootings. The Police Commission seeks to work closely with the public, the Los Angeles Police Department and other stakeholders to establish policies responsive to the concerns of the community and the needs of law enforcement.

Input will be gathered in community forums around Los Angeles and through a questionnaire available online at www.LAPDVideoPolicy.org .

The LAPD currently deploys body cameras worn by patrol officers, and expects to issue cameras to all patrol officers on the force by the end of 2017. Currently, the LAPD does not release videos of critical incidents except when used in trial or by order of a court. The L.A. Police Commission and LAPD seek broad-based community engagement to form a policy for public release of footage after critical incidents.

The public comment period will last 45 days. The Policing Project is expected to release a report summarizing the public feedback in June, and the L.A. Police Commission is expected to issue its preliminary policy proposal in July.

Fight For 15 Chicago
#FightFor15 …

April 4, 2017, 3:30pm – April 4, 2017, 5:00pm

CHICAGOthe anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, hundreds with the Fight for $15, Black Lives Matter Chicago, and Fair Economy Illinois (Resist Trump Tuesdays) will rally and march to demand a $15/hr minimum wage in Illinois, an end to racism, and protest Gov. Bruce Rauner and President Trump's anti-worker, anti-union policies. The protest will start at Federal Plaza, will head to a local McDonald's, and end at the Illinois Policy Institute.

The action is part of a nationwide Racism, Raise Pay" protest and is

joining the Resist Trump Tuesdays, Fight for $15 and Black Lives Matter Chicago. Thousands of underpaid workers, local racial justice activists, elected officials and clergy will hold rallies, marches, teach-ins, and other demonstrations to stress that the push for economic and racial justice remains as deeply linked today as when Dr. King was killed in 1968 supporting striking black sanitation workers in Memphis, Tenn. The coast-to-coast protests will culminate in a march by thousands of workers, national civil rights leaders and politicians on the Lorraine Motel in downtown Memphis, where they'll hold a memorial at the site of Dr. King's assassination 49 years ago.

The current minimum wage in Illinois has remained stagnant at $8.25/hr since 2014, far below the cost of living for any area in the state. People of color remain overrepresented in low-paying industries like fast-food: 48 percent of black workers and 61 percent of Latinos who are paid less than $15.

The April 4 protests come as newly empowered corporate interests and right-wing politicians attempt to strip away the rights of workers to organize across the country. Union jobs in state and local government which have historically provided a pathway to the middle class for workers of color are under attack from corporate-backed politicians like Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, who has refused to bargain a contract with state employees for nearly two years in an effort to break their union. The Illinois Policy Institute, a right-wing research organization, is often used by Gov. Rauner to justify his anti-worker policies.

WHAT: Hundreds to rally and march to demand $15 for Illinois; end racism & raise pay; and protest Gov. Rauner & President Trump's anti-worker, anti-union stance

WHO: Fight For 15, Black Lives Matter Chicago, Fair Economy Illinois (Resist Trump Tuesdays)

WHERE: Federal Plaza, 230 S. Dearborn St. [March to McDonald's, Illinois Policy Institute]

WHEN: 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, April 4, 2017

WHY:

In Illinois, the minimum wage has remained stagnant at $8.25/hr while Gov. Rauner has defunded social programs, like child care assistance, attacked state employees, and refused to sign legislation to raise the minimum wage of homecare workers and other low-wage workers to $15. Legislators will introduce a new legislation raising the state minimum wage to $15/hr by 2022. Workers and advocates in the for Illinois' Future Campaign" have pledged a powerful statewide field campaign to let voters know about the opportunity to raise pay for 2.3 million residents to $15/hr. One in four working people in Illinois are paid less than $15/hr.

The protests taking place in Chicago and around the country are the latest wave of defiance against reactionary attacks on working people, people of color, women and immigrants. Just weeks after the November 2016 election, thousands of workers in the Fight for $15 walked off the job from coast to coast and engaged in waves of civil disobedience. The walkouts marked the start of a new era of mass demonstration, including the Women's March and a rash of protests at the nation's airports following President Trump's announcement of an immigration ban from predominantly Muslim countries. The April 4 Fight for $15/Movement for Black Lives protests will kick off a wave of protests around the country in the following weeks, including demonstrations calling attention to immigrants' rights, climate change and tax policy that benefits the rich.

Dr. King saw a common bond between the labor and civil rights movements and believed that union rights were fundamental to achieving racial justice. As King said in 1961, two most dynamic and cohesive liberal forces in the country are the labor movement and the Negro freedom movement. Together we can be architects of democracy."

The Fight for $15 has spurred wage hikes for 22 million underpaid workers, including more than 10 million who are on their way to $15/hour, by convincing everyone from voters to politicians to corporations to raise pay. …

One in four working people in Illinois are paid less than $15/hr.

The protests taking place in Chicago and around the country are the latest wave of defiance against reactionary attacks on working people, people of color, women and immigrants. March 31, 2017, 6:45pm – March 31, 2017, 8:45pm

An urgent and enthralling chronicle of Ferguson, Missouri after the murder of Michael Brown, Jr., Whose Streets? follows the passion and commitment of the residents who took to the city's streets in the wake of the tragedy. With extraordinary access and startling footage of the escalating clashes between protestors and police, activists-turned-filmmakers Sabaah Folayan and Damon Davis go beyond the news clips to paint an extraordinarily intimate and honest portrait of suffering, injustice and the individuals who had the resolve to fight back. and incendiary" (The Guardian) and prime artifact of our freshly divisive racial moment" (Variety), Whose Streets? isn't just a stirring anthem for black power and self-determination, but a rallying cry against authoritarianism everywhere. As the film's demonstrators intone, is our duty to fight for our freedom; it is our duty to win." Courtesy of Magnolia Pictures.

"The House votes on ACA repeal TODAY. We need to generate thousands of calls to Congress. Here's a simple tool that helps you make a call to your representatives. Please start calling now. Final votes are set for around 3 pm ET.

Here's the timeline as it looks now:

Rules at 7am
Rule on the floor at 9am
First votes on the rule at 10am
Several hours of general debate likely
Done by five.

If you are represented by *moderate* GOP members, here are some talking points that they may not know about re: this bill:

1. Covering pre-existing conditions would only be on paper. Plans will not cover basic services, even prescription drugs, that people need to treat their conditions to stay healthy.
2. Charging women more than men. No longer requiring plans to cover maternity care would mean that insurance companies would once again be able to penalize women and charge them more.
3. Removing Essential Health Benefits effectively obliterates out-of-pocket caps and reinstates annual and lifetime limits. Because annual and lifetime limits apply only to essential health benefits, insurers could once again put a cap on how much care one receives but not on how much people owe. Those with employer-sponsored coverage will be at risk too.

If you don't use the tool below, you can make direct calls:
PLEASE GENERATE AS MANY CALLS AS YOU CAN. We must keep the pressure on because people will flip. English: 866-426-2631; Spanish: 877-736-7831. Ask Members to vote NO and to publicly state opposition."

We can't emphasize enough the work we have to do, to decolonize our minds, communities & institutions. The intersections of internalized oppression, anti-Blackness, gender based violence and heteronormative patriarchy have to be destroyed at their roots.

State violence perpetuates itself in systems of inequality & in the cultural norms of oppressed people, dealing with poverty & colonialism, which in turn produces cycles of intracommunal violence.

We have to agitate, educate and organize in our communities & fight for power! The power to reimagine & reshape our identities, communities & how we value and treat one another. Black girls need power, equity, love, reciprocity, & agency to define themselves, defend themselves and break free of the bondage of toxic masculinity.

Eagles are special sacred winged relatives to many cultures because of how high they can fly to carry up our prayers to the creators. Because of the harmony and loyalty they represent once they choose their mate. High, high up in the sky when they are actually mating, they lock their talons together so that they are intertwined and they begin a free fall from way up in the sky and before they hit the ground they release and do it again. And the mate they choose will be the only mate for life. A lot of us humans can't even do that!

It's sad at the rate our activities destroy and destruct all that lives on this planet including the earth itself and our own lives. We pray that we can each be awake enough to be much more mindful of each other and what we share this planet with and how fragile each living moment is here on this earth. …

Thanks to all the work the community has done showing up to City Hall since December, organizing different community events to fight back against the new administration and resist the racist, xenophobic, and unjust immigration policies, and collecting around 1,000 signatures and counting…. the moment has finally arrived for a vote on the Welcoming City Resolution which was proposed by Dan Besse after weeks of organizing and putting pressure on City Council to adopt such a resolution!

Y'all have shown time and time again that we are going to stand up, resist, and fight back and now we need to step up once again in this struggle and get as many folks to come out as possible next Monday to City Hall, the 27th, to stand in solidarity with the most marginalized in our community and show City Council that Winston-Salem believes in human rights, dignity, and compassion!

The new administration's threats towards the Latinx community, Muslims, immigrants, refugees, and countless others makes this moment extremely URGENT moving forward in taking steps to join with the over 37 other cities across the country standing firm in their resistance status despire the threats. This resolution may not go far enough compared to other cities who have taken a greater stand, but we must ensure this resolution passes as we continue to struggle forward and fight against xenophobic, racist, and unjust policies/rhetoric that are separating families, making millions live in fear, and ruining the lives of those in our community, state, and country.

As always, this is just one step of many towards building a more compassionate city built upon justice and dignity that protects the most marginalized and will resist at all costs.

This is an important step in the right direction as we continue to grow, build, resist, and fight together! See you soon!!! PLEASE SHARE WITH EVERYONE.

While on the campaign trail, Donald Trump called CNN's Erin Burnett for suggesting immigrants" pay taxes. But nationally, they contribute an estimated $11.64bn a year in just state and local taxes, with at least 50% of undocumented immigrant households filing tax returns, according to the non-partisan Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. Vermont's undocumented people pay almost $4m a year in state and local taxes and, at 7.9% of income, contribute slightly more than the effective rate for the top 1% of Americans. …
