Here is a short documentary about Hijab made by SCROP from Ifmsa Nl Groningen in collaboration with us, Groningen Feminist Network, Amnesty International, Unicef Groningen and Vrede Jongen. The goal of the documentary is to create awareness and start an open dialogue about this topic. We believe that every woman should have the right to choose whatever she likes to wear, including the Hijab! In order to defend this right, we have created a Hijab project, which this video is part of.

This is important to us all because the International Court of Justice and Human Rights must act now to prevent women from being physically tortured. They have to act on behalf of all women to change the way women are treated and provide compensation for women who have been abused by the government. Women must be free to express and not be forced into prostitution. Government and politicians use women like business, by taking away their human rights and using their bodies. They are taking advantage of unemployment, whenever they want. They don't respect their property, and their aren't given any jobs and rights away from their properties.

and many many unaffiliated, autonomous individuals

State-based violence is not new to our Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Two Spirit and Queer communities, especially queer and trans Black, and Indigenous people. Our ancestors for centuries have been disrespected, ignored, caged, abused, and subject to deadly violence since the formation of the American national identity. Stories of family members disappearing in police custody, violent backlash and attacks to silence and suppress us, and twisted politicians using our bodies for political gain are all too familiar.

And while the new political realities in the US and the rise of fascism around the world have many calling for unity, bold action and even revolution, we continue to see the transphobia, misogyny, xenophobia, anti blackness and racism that is at the root of Trump's power reflected back to us in our own community and in the growing movement to resist Trump's agenda. This year is on track to be the most dangerous year yet for trans women of color — even more violent than 2016, and 2015 before that.

So far in 2017, seven of our sisters have lost their lives to horrific acts of violence. These Black and native trans women's lives were in jeopardy on multiple levels before November 8th and threats have only increased since. However, despite the hyper-visible outrage against anti-woman and anti-LGBT policies led and inspired by the Trump administration, the loss of Mesha Caldwell, Jaquarrius Holland, Chyna Doll Depree, JoJo Striker, Ciara McElveen, Jamie Lee Wounded Arrow, Tiara Richmond, and the calls for action from trans women in our community have been met with telling silence.

A report released Thursday morning by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) said that undocumented immigrants in the United States contribute around $11.74 billion in state and local taxes. The contributions come from a variety of taxes, including sales, excise, personal income and property taxes.

"ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) occur in greater frequency among Latin American youth, specifically first-generation immigrant children. Studies also show that first-generation immigrant Latino youth are at higher risk of depression, anxiety and PTSD. This is in part caused by the constant stress and fear of deportation of themselves or family members.

These children suffer developmentally and educationally as well. They cannot access basic services such as early intervention, meal assistance or other government programs because their parents fear detection and deportation, even though a large proportion of these children are actually born in the United States and qualify for these programs. This results in even greater disparities between the Latin American community and the rest of the country." …

On Wednesday, March 22nd, we invite you to stand up to protect our immigrant neighbors in Rhode Island.

The House Judiciary Committee will face a choice in either protecting our immigrant neighbors from Trump's deportation force, or collaborating with federal immigration officials in the splitting apart of families and our community.

The Comittee will hear H5515 ( webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/BillText/BillText17/HouseText17/H5515.pdf ), a bill we support, as it would:

Prevent ICE from enlisting the help of local law enforcement officials in deporting families.

Protect cities and towns from the threat of litigation as a result of cooperating with ICE, as it prevents said cooperation

We encourage community members to testify AGAINST H5093 ( webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/BillText/BillText17/HouseText17/H5093.pdf ), a bill that would:

It will not make our communities safer. This bill mandates widely discredited policing practices, eroding public trust and making local policing more difficult. And has been publically opposed by Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare, and also nationally criticized by mayors and police chiefs.

It will drive our immigrant communities further underground, making people less likely to report crimes for fear of being targeted by the police.

This bill would make it a crime for local public officials not to aggressively target immigrants in our community and allow any citizen to sue them if they didn't. will drive our immigrant communities further underground, making people less likely to report crimes for fear of being targeted by the police.

a state whose hallmark is The Independent Man, H 5093 would require your state and local governments to do what they are told by the Trump administration, whether it is good for Rhode Islanders or not, including reporting the citizenship status of any Rhode Islander to the Federal Government.

** This event is being organized by a new coalition to protect immigrant rights **

//

petitions.moveon.org/workingfamilies/sign/dont-write-trumps-anti?source=c.em&r_by=4643457

We, members of the Brown Immigrant Rights Coalition (BIRC), are empowered by the collective efforts that resulted in recent policy changes in regards to undocumented students at Brown University. These changes will enable undocumented and DACA-mented students to apply as domestic applicants beginning this admissions cycle. Undocumented and DACA-mented applicants will now benefit from the university's need-blind admissions policy, and upon matriculation, Brown University will meet 100 percent of each students' demonstrated financial need.

This work would have been impossible without the tireless labor of students, faculty, and alumni, especially women of color and undocumented students who are too often the subject of institutional erasure. We recognize that there is much work left to be done, and BIRC is determined to remain active in the implementation of these policies at Brown. We are also committed to continue the fight within the global immigrant rights struggle in order to uphold our values and create a world where all forms of oppression are abolished. …

"Data released by the Department of Homeland Security shows that black immigrants are detained and deported at higher rates than their counterparts of other backgrounds. Over the past 20 years, since the 1996 laws have been in effect, statistics have shown a dramatic, alarming increase in the number of undocumented immigrants of African descent who have been racially profiled by local police and turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation. Estimates show that the deportation rate of undocumented black immigrants is five times their numbers in the undocumented population, which is similar to the overrepresentation of African Americans in the criminal justice system. Furthermore, black immigrants are twice as likely to be detained due to a criminal conviction. Even though black immigrants make up only 7% of the total immigrant population, 20% of all immigrants in deportation proceedings due to criminal convictions are black." …

Today, on World Water Day, the US Human Rights Network (USHRN) is hosting an official 61st UN Commission on the Status side event on the climate crisis, sustainable economies, and the human right to clean water from the perspective of Black, Indigenous, and Global South communities.

Black, Indigenous and Global South communities continue to experience human rights violations – including the denial of the human rights to clean water and sanitation – the world is facing undeniable and disastrous impacts of climate change. Leaders and human rights defenders will offer important insights, lessons, and ways forward that defend basic human rights for all," said US Human Rights Network (USHRN) Executive Director Colette Pichon Battle. Standing in Solidarity with our Tohono O'Odham brothers and sisters. …

March 23, 2017, 4:00pm – March 23, 2017, 8:00pm

Senator McCain has not come out with a formal statement opposing or supporting Trump's executive order to begin building a wall on the southern border, 75 miles of which would be on Tohono O'odham tribal land- a clear violation of the Nation's tribal sovereignty. The wall would be devastating to animals, wildlife, and water that moves across the border, and would prevent O'odham from continuing religious and cultural practices in our traditional lands of what is now Mexico.

Senator McCain represents the Tohono O'odham Nation and its tribal members in Congress and must listen to the voices and concerns of those who live and work on the Nation along the border. We stand AGAINST the border wall and increasing border militarization.

We want a large crowd of O'odham, Natives, and anyone who opposes Trump's proposed border wall to join us at McCain's office to visually remind him that he represents us and he needs to listen to our concerns. During this time, all letters of opposition to the wall that have been collected over the past few weeks will be delivered, and a meeting with his staff will be requested.

Wear your traditional outfits, bring your sawkud, visually represent your community or just show up!

In the past week, the repressive ICE agency conducted nationwide coordinated raids and collateral arrests of more than 680 undocumented immigrants. These attacks are part of the Trump administration plans to increase massive persecution, arrests and deportations of our undocumented brothers and sister.

Immigrant rights action committee L.U.P.E is calling on all progressive and popular forces in Tucson for an emergency protest outside of the Federal Building (300 W Congress St) on Thursday 16th at 5pm. Let us demonstrate with a unified voice of peoples power our determination to fight back and resist.

More than ever here in Tucson we need our city government to take a stand against the Trump administration and declare Tucson a Sanctuary City, by approving concrete measures that will prohibit collaboration with ICE and Border Patrol. We demand from our City Council concrete policies that commit to protecting and defending our undocumented brothers and sisters.

No Raids!

Sanctuary City!

No Muslim or refugee ban!

CALL to Action University of Arizona Divest from WELLS FARGO

THE CHUKSON/ TUCSON WATER PROTECTORS in solidarity with other Tucson groups are resisting the injustices of the Trump administration to the Indigenous peoples, humanity and the Earth.

DAPL URGENT CALL TO ACTION: The Drills Are Breaking Ground right NOW

We Have Been Called Upon by those still protecting the water in Standing Rock to commit to continuous action

Phase One: Divest Funds From Wells Fargo Immediately

A collective effort and concern that has grown so loud from the hard work and efforts of the the following diverse groups:

Those speaking out against the blatant illegal violation of Indigenous Treaty Rights

Environmentalists lobbying to protect the land and clean water,

Impacted families and communities now living in direct threat of toxic contamination and likely irreparable damage to their once clean water supplies

Medical Experts fearing the historical records that indicate the likelihood of multiple diseases that result from contaminated water exposure

Collectives of scientists, conservationists, wildlife protectors

Despite these national outcries:

The Drills Are Breaking Ground Right NOW!

The Army Corps is brazenly acting in violation of an established law, of procedure that requires Senate is provided a 14-day notice notice on the DAPL easement. They have tossed that law aside, fired up their engines, and announced: begins in 24 hours." This means that by the time you read this::

The Drills Are Breaking Ground right NOW!

It is more urgent than ever that all groups who have ever fought to protect against the threats previously mentioned, to join together now! We are fighting a much larger battle that joins all of us together. All of us, The People, when joined in solidarity:

CAN AND WILL FIGHT THIS!

In an effort to make our stance in this battle on many fronts, we begin today by announcing the call for all collectives and individuals to join together in the call for 14 Days of Continuous Actions that loudly, passionately, creatively, assert our voice:

Enough is Enough!"

We Stand Together: Please pass this notice to all individuals and groups in your communities, churches, schools, universities, etc. who would like to stand in solidarity. We ask all groups with any affinity in this battle to contact [Whatever we decided to put here?!]

We Move Forward: By continuing to publicizing through all channels and other media outlets what is happening now and continue to bring awareness of these atrocities that are happening to our communities. Our future generations' lives are at stake.

We Aim our First Phase at the Primary Interest – THEIR MONEY: We continue to target one of DAPL's financial backer, Wells Fargo. With a laser focus, we intensify the call for all parties to act now and divest from Wells Fargo.

We Join & Witness Success: As the Seattle City Council unanimously voted to divest from Wells Fargo in protest of #DAPL, we celebrate this as evidence that our initial goal is not only possible, but inevitable:

But We Must Join, Publicize, and Act Now!

This is only the beginning. This is only the first act. We encourage you to remain relentless and resistant.

Please alert your interest groups and communities to this Immediate Release of our Urgent Call to 14 days of Continuous Action that force our voices to be heard.

Please commit to the ongoing releases that will be announced on [Whatever we decided to put here?!]

This is now a movement that is reaching far beyond what anyone could have anticipated. As those drills slam into our earth which are the very reasons:

WE WILL PROTECT AND STRIVE TO WIN!

I was listening to Here and Now on NPR and heard Ijeoma Oluo discussing the Women's March and the mixed feelings she had about it as a woman of color. She talked about white women marching there who never marched for black rights. I have marched for black causes and signed lots of petitions for legal redress, but I started thinking about the problem and what the solution might be.

I moved to Tucson this November from L.A. and attended the volunteer fair here in Tucson looking to connect. When I approached the BLM table, there were already other white people there signing up to volunteer. We were all told that BLM was a blacks only organization, but we could sign the sheet as allies. I was disappointed, but understood that there might be a fear of having the movement hijacked, so I signed as an ally. I had been similarly rebuffed in the 60s by the Black Panther Party. I was too young to have marched with Dr. King and that movement. Rethinking my participation, I realized that I had never felt needed or wanted in the civil rights movement and therefore had participated more peripherally than I had wanted to.

My question is, how do white women, or men, support black participation in multiracial organizations that fight for rights we all want? How do we fix this issue so we can all move forward together? …

Is this where our country is going?

A conservative Arizona lawmaker, Rep. Bob Thorpe, is proposing a far-reaching law in Arizona, House Bill 2120, banning virtually every college event, activity or course which discusses social justice, skin privilege, or racial equality. Violating the law would allow the state of Arizona to levy multimillion-dollar fines and penalties against universities removing at least 10% of their state aid.

This is no joke. Arizona already passed a law targeting ethnic studies in the state. They are fulling willing and able to pass this bill as well.

Please allow me to highlight some of the most disturbing sections of the bill.

It would ban any courses, activities, or events that:

designed primarily for a particular ethnic group."

social justice toward a race."

solidarity based on ethnicity."

Strangely, so as to not appear anti-Semitic, the bill then makes a very particular allowance for any and all discussions of the Holocaust.

According to Tucson.com:

Thorpe said Thursday his bill is aimed specifically at things like a walk" exercise sponsored by the University of Arizona and a course entitled and Race Theory" at Arizona State University.

The former is described in UA literature as helping participants the privileges that they have been granted and to learn about the backgrounds of their peers."

Among the exercises is telling students to step forward if they meet certain criteria, like having more than 50 books in a home, going to a private school or having inherited money. Conversely, those who were raised in a single-parent household, had to rely on public transportation or were ashamed of their clothes while growing up take a step back for each.

Participants are supposed to notice where they are in relation to others.

All of this is completely and utterly disgusting. That an aloof lawmaker wants to actually oversee and monitor individual activities and events to prohibit students and staff from discussing economic and skin privilege in this country is not just petty, it's deeply problematic. What is his aim here?

It appears that Bob Thorpe actually has a bigger problem with students and staff discussing white privilege than he does with the unfair privilege itself. That should disturb all of us. For all of their talk about local rights, it's deeply telling to see conservative lawmakers go so far as to say what individual dormitory directors and instructors can and cannot discuss with their students. Conservatives like Thorpe are fully willing to be control freaks when it protects white supremacy and cultural hegemony then say they stand on the principles of local control when it benefits them.

I have a hunch this bill is not an anomaly, but a troubling sign of things to come.

The Policing Project is using a public questionnaire asking for broad community input to help the LAPD establish policies for the release of body camera footage taken following critical incidents, including officer-involved shootings.

Please help by completing the questionnaire, and reading the announcement below:

The Los Angeles Police Commission and the Policing Project seek community input to help the commission establish policies for the release of body camera footage taken following critical incidents, including officer-involved shootings. The Police Commission seeks to work closely with the public, the Los Angeles Police Department and other stakeholders to establish policies responsive to the concerns of the community and the needs of law enforcement.

Input will be gathered in community forums around Los Angeles and through a questionnaire available online at www.LAPDVideoPolicy.org .

The LAPD currently deploys body cameras worn by patrol officers, and expects to issue cameras to all patrol officers on the force by the end of 2017. Currently, the LAPD does not release videos of critical incidents except when used in trial or by order of a court. The L.A. Police Commission and LAPD seek broad-based community engagement to form a policy for public release of footage after critical incidents.

The public comment period will last 45 days. The Policing Project is expected to release a report summarizing the public feedback in June, and the L.A. Police Commission is expected to issue its preliminary policy proposal in July.

While many of us have various views on the use of guns, we can agree on one thing BLACK PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS AS EVERY OTHER MEMBER OF THIS COMMUNITY.

Also, the state made some huge changes to how folks navigate on Capitol grounds, based on this very event.

Join the family of Elena "Ebbie" Mondragon at the next Hayward City Council meeting to demand both the truth and real accountability for her recent killing by Fremont police. (Hayward PD is "investigating" since it happened there.)

Unidentified Fremont detectives – driving an unmarked car in Hayward – shot 16 year-old Ebbie on March 14th in the middle of an apartment complex and concocted a very suspicious story to justify killing an innocent girl.

Ebbie's family misses her deeply and remembers her as a kind young woman who was a big SF 49ers fan.

-Any video footage leading up to, during and after the shooting

-Full autopsy report plus any and all medical records

-Any and all information about what happened to the car the police were following

LIKE I said. Yt feminism isn't concerned with the issues and needs of black women.

Now do you guys understand why I cussed out those fake feminists a few weeks ago? Where are they now??? They swore up and down they were disgusted by oppression and discrimination and their hats and safety pins were a sign of their dedication to the resistance, but where are they now when we need them?????

Think about this next time the next group asks us to join in on their fight. Ask them "where were you when we really needed you?"
